2017 Volkswagen Jetta Buyer’s Guide

The European Sedan of Mainstream Compact Cars

The 2017 Volkswagen Jetta is the most affordable European sedan in America. Developed to the highest public road standard in the world — there are still long stretches of German autobahn with no speed limit — the Jetta has the solid chassis, firm feel and decisive responses required for an environment where triple-digit fast lane speeds aren’t unusual.

Behind the Wheel

From our 2017 Volkswagen Jetta review: “Aside from invigorating engines, we appreciate the Jetta’s responsive steering and brakes, and smooth transmissions. Jettas have a taut but compliant ride, but the Jetta GLI with its stiffer suspension and larger, 18-inch wheels can be harsh.”

What’s New?

For 2017 the Jetta lineup is tidied into four trims, and the hybrid and diesel powertrains are gone. While there are fewer models, the Jetta line continues to range from pure economy car to performance-oriented sedan, and more equipment, including a rearview camera, has been made standard.

Build and Price

The 2017 Volkswagen Jetta starts at below $19,000 and tops out at about $30,000 for a 2.0T GLI model. Build and price your own 2017 Volkswagen Jetta right here at KBB.com to unlock its Fair Purchase Price, 5-Year Cost to Own and more.

Owners Say

Chris W. had this to say about the Jetta: “While the car may not have all the bells and whistles, and the interior is a bit stark, I love the driving dynamics of the car and the extraordinary mileage. The 1.4 turbo engine and transmission are well matched and the car is a pocket rocket compared to similar compact cars.
