An incredible selection of cars belonging to the first winner of the inaugural British Saloon Car Championship, ‘Gentleman Jack’ Sears, is set to go under the hammer at Bonhams’ Goodwood Revival sale on 9 September. One of the most versatile and talented British racers of the 1950s and 1960s, Sears became the first person to scoop the British Saloon Car Championship title in 1958, winning it again in 1963 at the wheel of a mighty seven-litre Ford Galaxie. The ex-John Willment Racing Team machine is one of the star lots…

First meeting of The Beatles to be recreated at NEC Classic Motor Show

The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show will pay homage to two of the country’s greatest musicians later this year, by recreating the first meeting between John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The pair first met on 6 July 1957 at a village fete in Liverpool, when McCartney stumbled across a band playing on the back of a flatbed lorry. That band was The Quarrymen, and its lead singer was none other than John Lennon. As a result of their meeting, McCartney was asked to join the band, which was later renamed…

Datsun Sunny scoops top gong at Festival of the Unexceptional

Though perhaps unexceptional in terms of design and technology, there was nothing ordinary about the incredible condition of Mark Ashbridge’s 1983 Datsun Sunny 1.5GL, which was crowned champion of this year’s Festival of the Unexceptional at Stowe House. More than 2000 visitors poured into the grounds of the Buckinghamshire estate, taking a trip down memory lane courtesy of the fourth running of the Hagerty-backed Concours d’Ordinaire. More than 50 specially selected models took to the show field including a 1982 Austin Metro in Champagne Beige, a 1980 Austin Maxi and…

Evora GT430 is most powerful Lotus road car yet

Lotus on Thursday unveiled the most powerful road car in the marque’s history. The car is the Evora GT430, and as the name suggests it’s packing 430 horsepower. The power, together with 325 pound-feet of torque, is generated by the Evora’s familiar 3.5-liter supercharged V-6 and propels the GT430 from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds. The top speed is 190 mph. The engine, which is sourced in naturally aspirated form from Toyota, is hooked up with a 6-speed manual and spins the rear wheels only. A limited-slip differential is also…

Rare Porsche 911 GT2 takes on a Portuguese hill climb

For the 993-series 911, Porsche produced less than 60 examples of the mighty GT2, and even fewer GT2 Evo models. This first-generation GT2 was built in an effort to satisfy homologation requirements, and it was a monstrous example of what Porsche could get away with in a road car. Power was rated at 424 horsepower which for the early ’90s was a ridiculous figure. By the end of the run, that figure had climbed to 444 hp. The car you see above? It’s reportedly making 700 horses, the same as the latest 911 GT2…

Report: Next-gen Maserati GranTurismo delayed until 2019

The Maserati GranTurismo has been with us since 2008 and is certainly showing its age against more modern rivals such as the Aston Martin DB11 and Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe. During Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ 5-year strategy announcement in May 2014, CEO Sergio Marchionne said Maserati would redesign the GranTurismo as well as launch an all-new sports car based on 2014’s Alfieri concept car. Both were promised for launch by the end of calendar year 2018, but both have since been delayed. Instead, Maserati has given its GranTurismo a refresh for 2018. As for the Alfieri…

Benelli 302R First Ride Review

Why I would buy the 302R This bike does so many things right – ride quality, ergonomics, comfort and even handling – you can’t help but liking it. Plus, it comes with ABS as standard. Why I would avoid the 302R For all its engine capacity and sound, it simply lacks the go. It also doesn’t get you excited like a sports bike ought to. This is the production version of DSK-Benelli’s entry-level sports offering, the 302R. And it unashamedly borrows from the Benelli line-up, just like the youngest in…

2018 BMW S1000RR spotted testing

The next-generation BMW S1000RR has been spotted testing in Europe. While the previous update gave the bike a cosmetic overhaul, a bump in power and a revised chassis, this new model seems to benefit from a few more significant upgrades. The spy shot shows the new BMW S1000RR featuring several changes to the chassis. The swingarm has been redesigned, the chassis shape is different while the bodywork has also been revised. The cosmetic updates are also significant and stray away from the bike’s current design language. Narrow headlamp, redesigned exhaust end can,…

Benelli 302R to launch tomorrow

Benelli is going to launch its 302cc Kawasaki Ninja and Yamaha YZF-R3 competitor in India tomorrow. The Benelli 302R boasts of a couple of features which are missing in its rivals. To begin with, the bike gets ABS as a standard. The 302R also features inverted front forks and rides on Metzeler M5 tyres. Although the bike borrows its rear end design from its…

2017 Best Vehicle Brand Awards

The Best Car Brands When shopping for a car or SUV, most people start by picking the right brand. While there are certainly brand loyalists who wouldn’t consider buying something other than a Toyota or a Chevy, for most people, finding the right vehicle brand can be daunting. There are over 35 vehicle brands sold in the U.S., and with car brands being introduced or discontinued, re-entering the U.S. market, or shuffling the kind of vehicles they sell (no, Dodge doesn’t sell trucks anymore), it’s no wonder consumers can get confused. Our Best Vehicle Brand…
