After the range was thinned by Euro4, Guzzi will show us new concept at EICMA
While the bike did have a following, it wasn’t exactly a sales storm (just 7000 units over its eight year run) and ultimately Guzzi said that the investment needed to bring the engine in line with Euro4 wasn’t worth it. The by-product of this is that the Guzzi range is a looking a little threadbare, with only the V7, V9, California and insane MGX-21 cruiser remaining – which begs the question: what’s next for Guzzi?
In short, they need a new engine if the range is going anywhere and thankfully, that’s exactly what they’ve been working on. Speaking to CycleWorld in America, Davide Zanolini, Piaggio Executive Vice-President for Marketing and Communication said: “Moto Guzzi are hard at work on a totally new engine, very advanced – a radical evolution compared to the present V7, V9 and V1400 units. It is due to complete this range of units and I will not say more at this date. We expect to be able to introduce some radical Moto Guzzi novelty at EICMA 2017, though at its concept stage.”
It’s assumed that the new engine will follow BMW and Harley’s furrow, incorporating water cooled valves and heads, with an air-cooled cylinder to keep the classic look although what model it will debut in is unclear. Fingers crossed for a radical reinterpretation of the classic Le Mans.
